Loud music and Hogget. No thanks. Again a good read but it seems its more about a menu where the ingredients could not be picked up in our local supermarket and most people have never heard of. Food snobbery comes to mind. Give me good old fish and chips anytime.

I remember the Martin Dawes restaurant reviews fondly although he never smiled much!!

There was a place called Paradigm 1 on Abbeydale Road for a short while in 2000. It was 3 courses for a £10, bring your own wine and just an amazing little place. As a totally broke student I absolutely wanted to fill my belly for a tenner but it did feel like quality food too. There were games and books, the atmosphere was laid back and cosy but young and vibrant at the same time. I still have one of the flyers from there framed with some other memorabilia. (Since I married the boy I went on a few dates there with). I hope Sheffield never loses its authentic heart when it comes to places like this.

I went. I took my sister there for her birthday. We couldn’t believe we’ve never been there before. It was an amazing lunch. The food and tasting drinks menu to match it and and the theatre of the place all added to the one lovely surprise after another.

I hate long loud music when I’m trying to eat and talk. However it wasn’t too loud. I think the sound system must be amazing. The noise of chattering diners was delightful I couldn’t see one miserable couple with little to say to each other in the whole dining room. There was a mix of small tables and larger tables and everyone seem to be having fun. I think that’s what people mean about atmosphere in the restaurant. Joro has it cracked

We walked out and we felt we’d done something special and been somewhere special. The effect lasted for a long , long time after I stopped feeling slightly tipsy

I'm a huge fan of Joro and I'm sure their first Michelin star isn't far away (although my most recent visit could have been better - Customer experience was too far down their list of priorities and definitely below making more money).

But I want to comment on the Old Vicarage. I love this restaurant and have done ever since moving to Sheffield 35 years ago. But they deserved to lose their star because their service had become really, really awful. Read any review in the year or two leading up to when they lost it and they are consistent in their criticism. It had nothing to do with fashion. But losing the Michelin star was the best thing that happened to them. They upped their game and focused on the dining experience. I'm sure they'll get it back soon. They deserve to.
