My partner and I live on the Manor estate and we pass through here regularly. I still think of it as "Deep Pits" as do many local 'natives' born and brought up on the estate.

There has been a bit of trouble occasionally (a man murdered recently) but that's nothing to do with the Park and the improvements Ted Talbot talked about and more to do with societal problems like drugs, flytipping, litter and antisocial behaviour

The real danger is exactly what Ted says it is. Money to get the site up to a standard everyone loves (from the EU please note all you Brexiteers), but no money to keep up that standard thanks to a decade plus of Tory austerity facilitated by our late unlamented Sheffield Hallam MP Sir Nick "Mr Facebook" Clegg.

Couldn’t believe it when I first did parkrun there earlier this year, great park. Hilly mind!

Excellent article about a great park David. Sheffield is blessed by its parks, but struggling to maintain them in the face of relentless funding issues. It's significant that Manor Fields was kick started by a significant input from Europe. I suppose the current equivalent is the Leveling Up Fund, which I know the Council is trying to access as much as possible.

A lovely article well photographed as is the hallmark of David Bocking with added perspective farsighted views from the two 'strollers' involved.Let's have a follow up looking at the Lodge site specifically.

Fabulous article. Thanks. Manor Fields is an outstanding city park. It is a delight to be able to spend time there. I wish Green Estate were in charge of the design and management plans for all Sheffield parks. It's a truly remarkable organisation.

Thanks Dan. Great stuff. You’re right, there should probably be more wild flowers and recreated wildness in our more famous city parks too, like Endcliffe and Hillsborough. More of us should give Manor Park a visit.

Another great article. I feel fortunate to already be all too aware of this fantastic green space, due to it being fairly close to where I live here in Norfolk Park. Highly recommended to all, as is the Lodge itself, when open etc.

Some of the best events have happened in manor fields park including this one itbwas a great day all round. Its a great place too look round and have family picnics, its alot bigger than people think. There is plenty of seating areas around for you to sit and enjoy the views.

Despite being a Sheffielder born & bred l had never visited Manor Castle. What a lovely well kept area around the castle, beautiful! . The lavender maze and myriad wild flowers were a joy to the eye. From there l went to Manor fields, a grand area with the flowers in bloom and great views of Sheffield. Go and have a look, you don't know what beauties of nature you are missing.

Great article and some fantastic work there that benefits nature, the planet and people. Good to see Ted doing some brilliant work after being a victim of (unnecessary) post pandemic cuts at National Trust.

Very interesting and at last a 'Green' article that doesn't try to castigate me for daring to drive up Eccelsall Road. Seriously though this has, at least in part, got to be the way to go. A recognition that if we want to do our bit to 'save the planet' we need initiatives like this. That recognise there have to be compromises like not trying to exactly recreate the wild flower meadows of the past. In my own tiny back garden I have tried to plant flowers to attract bees and butterflies. Imagine if millions of people across the U.K. did something similar.
