Thanks for writing this and sharing the links to the pub dates- I’ve been meaning to find one to visit for years! It was Kate Rusby who 1st introduced us to these local carols - so her versions are on our festive playlist!

Great article Dan. I first remember singing the local carols in the pub in Grenoside on Boxing Day, after watching my Grandad dancing with the Grenoside Sword Dancers. If you're interested, this 200 year old Tradition will continue this Boxing Day outside The Old Harrow pub at 11am. Get in touch if you want more info. Steve Mettam

This was fascinating. Embarrassingly, I was born in Sheffield and lived there till I was 11, and I had no idea this tradition existed. Fair enough, I wasn't old enough to go to the pub :)

Nice words Dan, another gem of a story on the ‘doorstep’ unearthed by you - liked your choice of pics that go with it, especially love seeing a black and white print with a good story like this (takes me back) - seems somewhat appropriate.
