The Police denied knowing where the party was until presented with evidence that they were there. When a police service cannot even tell the truth about basic facts to the community it serves it is truly broken. Far more worrying and dystopian than one night of noise pollution, however annoying it may have been.

no publicity is good publicity, but, as someone from the scene, at least this is reasonably fair coverage. the star, telegraph, national news and of course the police have had their fair amount of jabs at us over the years so i think its understandable that we don't really like any publicity. but thanks for at least painting the whole thing in a reasonably positive light.

also i find the polices take interesting, not sure what use a fire safety plan would be outdoors in an open field but there ya go.

also, SIA staff?? anyone who goes to festivals or licensed, legal raves will know that security are 90% of the time the biggest crooks there, unpleasant at best, but often bullies, thieves, or even being party to the violence and gang culture they are meant to prevent. that old cliche of bouncers stealing peoples drugs and selling them back to them is a cliche because its true. i have heard far more horror stories about horrible security in the past year or 2 in sheffield alone than about bad things happening at free parties.

niche 2017. had to take my watch off to get through the metal detectors on the door yet there's multiple people inside with knives. start off robbing folk at knife point in the toilets and end up with 4 people getting stabbed inside. i was there that night and it was fucking chaos. pools of blood on the floor, hundreds of people in the street screaming and shouting, police everywhere. ask yourself how them knives got in the place?? on the watch of our good friends with the green arm bands (aka bouncers).

this is probably the worst example i have heard of, but add it up with countless stories of people being bullied, robbed or beat up by security, or needlessly ejected (@the harley, culprit no1 for kicking people out for being "too drunk" whem theyve had about 3 beers) from a venue.

a friend of mine was once spiked at the wick at both ends and was simply ejected from the place. security wouldnt even accompany her inside to pick up her bag and coat, neither would they get one of her friends to help her. no idea how she got home, not that the security gave two fucks about her safety. 19 year old girl left stumbling round town, completely incapacitated and security actually PREVENTED her friends from helping her. this would never happen at a free party. i havent heard examples of spiking at a free party but any time someone is a bit too intoxicated for their own good then there will be a constant person or group of people looking after them, sat down comfortably on the grass, with water, food if needed, and some friends to talk sense to them, make sure theyre okay, and get them to sleep or get them home if needed. but according to the police, town is safer - when your too fucked you get kicked out and left to roam the streets, minus your belongings or anyone that cares about you. figure that one out.

if the police think we need security guards to be safe, or if they think that the systems we have in place currently are good, then it shows just how out of touch they are.

As Eddy said "I don't wanna dance", at least not 'till dawn, these days. But as another thinker said I shall defend the rights of those who do.

(But turn the bass down a bit when it gets late willya guys - live and let sleep?)

Amazing. True about people wanting to keep the dream alive. I live in Leeds and travelled to Sheffield all the time to gatecrasher right up to S1 burning down . Since then I crave to dance my heart out once more . Im one of those who would love to keep the dream alive.

It's a daft place to build house as it's so low, they won't be there for long. Better to let the land be used for partying and conserve it.

'The party winding down' photo put me in mind of the Craggy Island Funfair in Father Ted.

I went to the last big illegal raves in 99/00 and then was off to Gatecrasher. The rave culture gets nothing but attacks from the media in the UK and there's no protection at all. Most of my circle of friends have decent jobs and are in their 40s.

In the UK there's only really two superclubs left Fabric and Emporium. Every decent venue in Manchester (I'll cite there because I know it well) has been closed down either for Flats or flat owners have complained about noise. The council makes more money from council tax than business rates I assume and it's less aggro.

We have been pushed out of being able to party legally and now leave the country to do so (as I said we aren't waster druggies like people think 😂😂). If I'd known about the free one I would have considered going but was travelling (partying) and working in Asia.

I generally go to bigger events now in Europe where you get resorts in Croatia or Stadiums in the Netherlands. There you aren't treated like criminals by the security who act like jumped up police with dogs and full body searches. In Romania they metal wand you and that's it, you don't get hassled at all. I've gone off topic but in Europe you can leave festivals and go back in which is perfect if you have food intolerances too. Haha

Bringing up that there was noone with an SIA license makes me want to go back to illegal parties. I don't want to get screamed in the face just cos a dog likes to sniff my ass. I said to that particular Obese b**ch that she could have my pants now cos there's nothing there. And I still couldn't get her license details because there's absolutely no respect for people who live and rave like myself. Haha (btw I'm a 5"2 lass who couldn't scare a child 😂)

That's what you the paying customer has to deal with in the UK at legal parties and why I welcome back free parties...

There's no Superclubs unlike the late 90s and most security people have a god complex.

This rave caused untold disturbance and concern to local residents all over the city. I passed on intelligence to SYP on 3 more raves over this summer, for up to 20,000 each time, and received a very disappointing response from them, to the effect that SCC’s licensing dept were looking into them. Heaven forbid if these get out of control after the last experience.

Thanks for uncovering the mysterious noise source. Yours from Nether Edge!

I'm really very nice usually. But I get the bit between my teeth when people take liberties. And making all that noise was taking liberties, egregiously so. Do you think that those people kept awake would consider you a bundle of joy?

I admit to being old (75.) Everybody gets old, if they stay alive long enough. Nothing can be done to stop it. I hope you see many more years yourself. "Live long and prosper" ♥

I would also point out that those who go to these parties will in all probability be damaging their hearing. The ability to hear isn't inexhaustible, hence occupational deafness caused by noisy machinery and explosions. About the ravers, I refrain from saying "and it'll serve them right."

Oh, one last thing: that pic of when they were clearing up - lovely doggy 🐺 💓

"It looks like they are praying to some sort of God." Well, Dan: that's exactly what they're doing. The god they're worshipping is self-entitlement, in earlier times known as Moloch, the all-consuming. Didn't mean to make all that noise? How did it happen, then? Shouldn't one of the sound engineers have been checking?

NB I and my household didn't hear it so weren't personally disturbed by it. But my sympathies are with the folk who were trying to get some sleep but couldn't. The right name for what happened is "noise pollution."
