Interesting article on housing not being built but begs the question what is the value of council strategies to build if they are in practice powerless to achieve results. Do the council have a view?

Well, the council’s view is they want these homes to be built but they can’t force developers to do so. They are building 3,000 council homes in the next decade but they will need the private sector to do the rest. And investors are getting cold feet at the moment due to inflation and worries about the economy. It’s a difficult problem to solve.

Ok but your article says the council asserts that 20000 homes must be built. If the council is building 3000 in 10 years the discrepancy is not clear unless these figures are put into a consistent time frame. And if the shortfall is as big as it appears to be why urge the private sector to do something that it clearly isn’t going to do?
