In the late 90s, around this time of the year, I was one of a work colleagues party who went to the ski slopes for a sledging and barbecue evening.
As we watched the sun set behind Walkey, beer and sausages sandwiches in hand, we felt transported to some distant mountainous area. Even the ski lodge made a decent impression of an alpine chalet!
I look forward to the site being redeveloped to go and repeat the experience.

Nice incisive piece by a pro-yes a lot of birdlife.The ski lodge was almost an architectural folly.
