The result in Fulwood was lower profile but equally interesting. Previously a safe Lib Dem ward, Labour reduced the Lib Dem majority by around 1,000 and got over 30% of the vote for the first time. One to watch next time!

Now back in Portugal I voted by proxy. But I certainly didn't bother to watch any of the results coming in from anywhere. I am not terribly bothered how the swings and roundabouts panned out. Neither was it a surprise to see Mr Coppard become the South Yorkshire Mayor. How he gets the rival South Yorkshire Authorities to work together will be interesting to say the least. I was interested to see that voters in Bristol had voted to abolish the post of City Mayor and go down the route of a 'Committe' System. Does this mean that if the voters of South Yorkshire don't like the Mayoral System they can call a referendum to try to abolish it? Or is it only City Mayors that can be removed in that way?
